I've got one of those single shot Baikal rifles. I'm looking for some kind of scope mount for it, as I want to use it for moose this fall. Epps has some coming in that they say will do the trick. However, I'm wondering if anyone has had any success. Most things I have read on line claim that with a large calibre, it is difficult to get anything that will not move. They have a kind of dovetail mount, but its not the same size as a .22 mount. All suggestions would be appreciated. Also, i live in the middle of no-where, so will have to do all my business on-line.

I'd avoid a .22 style dovetail mount for any center fire. Can a weaver/Pictany top rail be drilled and tapped to the top of the receiver? Harold

That's what I had my gunsmith do. Far superior to anything that can be done with a dovetail mount.

I have used the weaver 22 rings on my single in the 30-06 and on my 12/3006. I use the 12/3006 a lot and it has not moved since I installed. The biggest thing with this set up is the scope, where the turrents are. The older scopes (bushnell, khales, maybe some other) have a length of 3/4" across the turrents and the newer scopes have 1". The newer scopes will not work with the weaver rings since there is not enough holding contact on the rifle mounting area. You could try 22 burris rings on this as they are narrower rings than the weaver and might be able to use a newer scope.
As for the gun, they are a good gun for the price, light handy and being a take down good for storage and a second rifle incase one fails.

I use UTG tactical rail adapter 11mm to weaver worked good but have since moved to accushot utg medium rings for the 11mm rail on my mp221 4570. It has a stop set screw as well. Holds my scope perfectly tight even thru hot loaded loads. Got them at air gun source in peterborough

A one-piece airgun mount for .22 dovetails is what I put on mine when I had one, in 7.62x39. It held with no problems for more than 2 cases of surplus ammo until I sold the gun. I think the long contact surface of the mount, about 4 or 5 inches, results in a good grip and solid mounting. I'm sure it would work with the x54 as well. If not, well, you're only out about 20 bucks for one of these mounts. I got mine at LeBaron's in Markham, but I've seen them at Epps as well.
