Hey folks,

I think it's time I equip one of my rifles with a scope. I am planning on fitting it to a rifle which will require a scout scope, or similar with long eye relief. I have never purchased a scope before and am looking for suggestions as to brands/models that would be good.

Some details to help you help me:

-scope will be used for hunting large game
-areas I hunt have short sightlines, not expecting to shoot at anything more than 200m away
-weight is key as the rifle I'm planning to mount it on is already pretty heavy
-Price point of around $500-$750

Thanks in advance for helping out this scope noob!

Probably the most commonly available scout (intermediate eye relief) scopes are from Leupold, Burris, and Weaver. The latter is about $250, the K4 Scout (4x28mm) from their classic K model range. The Leupold and Burris are 2.5x and 2.75x (or maybe it's the other way round) and I'm pretty sure both are more expensive than the Weaver. Certainly the Leupold is - if you really need to get rid of $500 the Leupold is probably your best chance.
