It was always my firm belief that it is just pure blasphemy to put optics on any lever action rifle...but is it???
The only extra or aid that I put on my Winny 94 was a Williams FP aperature.
But now these days it seems the popularity of the lever is on a steady climb(even without the aid of Winchester shutting its doors) and more and more levers of various cal`s are being seen with scopes or other sighting aids.
I suppose to come of age is the settling factor and now I must come to agreement that this is the course us shooters today are headed. Going back 25yrs I can remember flipping through the Canadian Tire catalog and eyeing up the Marlin 30-30 pkg that came with a scope mounted! Well would`nt you know it and thanks to Rembo, I now own a Marlin 336 in 30-30 and went out of my way to mount and boresite a cheapy Bushnell scope....just to see of course what the craze was all about. Well I can say this, my groups shrank and my distance from muzzle to target grew . Am I getting old? Is my vision tireing? I (thankfully) still go on everday without the need for glasses but still, mounting a scope on a lever..alright, I give.
Rembo my friend, if you still have that fixed power Leupold..I want it, but you have to wait till April when I return home from tour ;);)

haha it's only medium wrong to do it.

If you put a beautiful little scope... 1-5x, 2-7 or 4x or something.. as long as the scope is light in weight and good in quality.. it's ok.

I was looking for a leupold lx2 or 3 in 2-7 for my marlin 45-70 but I happened to buy a tikka t3 lite with a bauch and lomb elite 3000 2-7 x 33. Now I need a 4200 or similar for that beautiful little 6.5mm and the 2-7 moves over. I've got a few cheap bushnells and a weaver k4 4x sitting around but that bauch and lomb is such a nice little scope.

Just a guys opinion.

I vote Leupold FX-II 2.5x20mm.

I have this on my 10-22, it's a great scope.

Nothing wrong with a scope on a lever gun if the lever gun was factory drilled and tapped for scope mounts - up to the gun owner.

That said, the old Winchesters look much better without scopes. Tang sights would be ok if they are correct for the time the gun was made in. Certain peep sights may also be ok - again if the gun was factory drilled and tapped for the sight.

Bottomline, it's your gun - do with it as you see fit and enjoy it!

Scopes can be cool on old lever guns. This is a 1935 99H barrel band in 30-30 with a vintage stith no drill mount and lyman all weather alaskan.

Cool is without modifying the original rifle!

I would say on a win 94 a scope doesn't look right but on a marlin you can get away with it. I have a marlin 1895 and love my bushnell 1.25x4 4200 elite illuminated dot. I have been toying with the idea of putting peep sights on it but I shot a deer this year with it and the scope works fine so why change it.

I have a 4x scope with see through rings on my Marlin 30AS. I stuck with the open sights on my ss guide gun. Looks better and I think is suits its purpose better.
