I'm looking for a scope to put on a Savage Model 99, in 250 Savage that I'm just about to receive. It will be my first scoped rifle (I've got peep sights on all my other levers. It will probably turn into my main, go to rifle. Its been re-barreled so it doesn't have any iron sights to use as "back-up". Most shots will be taken at 200 yards and under, I'm sure nothing around the 400 mark, but if the chance presented it's self at 300, I'd like to take it... Or am I dreaming and asking too much.
What I'm currently considering is a...
1- Redfield Revolution 2-7x33mm Riflescope with Accu-Range Reticle
2- LEUPOLD VX-Freedom 2-7x33 Matte, Duplex Reticle
Both I found are just under the $400 mark, new.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these scopes, or any other suggestions? I'd like to keep it somewhat sleek and somewhat period correct looking if possible. The rifle will already have a Leupold base and 1" low rings on it.

I'm looking to spend around that amount or even up to $500ish for any suggestions. Either new or used is fine with me when keeping that price point in mind. I'd personally prefer to pay a bit more on a used one (up to $500), if it's that much better than any new one.

Thanks for any insight/experience anyone can give me.

i have an old bushnell 1-4x20 made in korea on my 300 savage. if you re on a budget i will try a redfield revolution do not know if you can find them NIB but you can get one for less than $250 shipped ...

There are a few nicer Leupolds in the EE if you scroll back a bunch-oh pages.
Some prices are rather uppity, but compare with new prices and make'an offer.
VarX III 1.5x4.5-20 kawt me eyebawl.

Don't buy new if you want to look period correct! I just picked up a 70's model 99A and will likely put my weaver K3 on it. If you are really serious you can pick up any # of 'vintage' scopes for 50-150$. To put your mind at ease you can send it in to Trace scope repair. I had my weaver in there cleaned and re-sealed for very fair $. I have since packed it around in the sheep mountains for days on end it is tough as nails. A nice gloss leupold, B&L , Lyman etc. would look at home as well.

Thats a good point. I wasn't sure if the newer stuff had better parts, or if new or old were to stand up the best. I'm not looking for an actual "bullet proof", "throw it off a cliff" guaranty, but if I happened to miss a step and fall, I'd hope the scope wouldn't break or be un-useable.
