One of my friends just got a 94 given to him and he was wondering about his scope options. I'm not a lever junky so I told him I would ask my fellow Nutz to chime in. Personaly, I told him that if his shots were to be within 150 yards to just use the irons.......
so how does one get around the top ejection????

Another option would be the peep sight.
Still waiting for mine caught up in the mail galldarnit........:(
The few that I have seen have side mounts and not sure how the brass
reacts to the scope when being ejected.
I would imagine it would be fun to watch a couple spent casing being tossed.

"...get around the top ejection..." Hi. The scope gets mounted on the left side of the receiver or forward of the receiver a la a 'scout' rifle. Don't think there are many, if any, 'scout' style mounts though. Haven't looked either. Think low magnification(4 or 5 X is plenty) and a smallish front lens(a 40 will be somewhat awkward. Rings would need to be fairly high. 32mm is enough).
"...use the irons..." Better iron sights are available. Still mounted(drilling and tapping is usually required. Might be already done for side mounted sights and scope mounts though.) on the left rear of the receiver or on top aft of the ejection port. William's makes both types. Their '5D' model is less expensive than their 'FP' model. Epp's is a dealer or your buddy can order direct from William's.

I was given a 1970s Model 94 with a side mount scope. I had to crane my head so far over to the left to look through it without my cheek supported on the stock that my head wobbled all over the place and never felt I could shoot it that way. Ripped the damn thing off the gun.

I guess I could have tried to use the left eye. Williams receiver sights screw right into factory holes of most models except really old ones. I have one on a 1956 '94 but my 1927 isn't drilled for a peep sight.

Is it a top ejection? Some Winchesters are side eject and can be scoped over the receiver otherwise as suggested peeps are the best option and if he really wants a scope he can trade it for a Marlin.
