Was out testing some loads yesterday & ran into a problem!
Using a 12x scope I'm finding I can't focus on the crosshairs & 100yd target at the same time. Targets are 1" red squares on white cardboard background. Parrelex is adjusted so target is clear. I do require glasses for reading but don't use them for shooting as they make anything after a few feet blurrey. Is this normal for older eyes:(? Is there anyway to adjust around this?? Granted I pretty much quit shooting for a couple years but can't really remember this being as big an issue.

Try adjusting the ocular lense (thats the eyepiece). Most scopes will have a locking ring that jams up against the eyepiece to keep it tight on the maintube of the scope. Untighten this ring a few turns and then turn the eyepiece in or out until the reticle comes into focus. Do this adjustment while looking at a blank surface like the sky so your eye will not try and place the object into focus instead of the reticle. When you are done hold the eyepiece secure and tighten the ringg with your hands. Some scopes don't have a locking ring so just turn the eyepiece in or out(this may require a little extra pressure as they sometimes stick. Phil.

try to not aim at the sun please, then that would turn out to make your eyes the problem!

I was havign the same problem, are we talking about the kind of ring that would be behind the magnification ring?

your eyes have changed- mine changed .5x in the wrong direction in 6 months, and i'm just over 50- it has to do with the muscles that focus getting stiffer or something i;m told- first thing would be an eye exam to see waht your prescription SHOULD BE - there's probably nothing wrong with your scope, but i think that 12x at 100 yards is too much magnification as well- if you can try dialing it down , to say 4 or 6- i've got a bunch of 4x12s, and use the 12 right at the 300 yard line or better- hence , i raised an eyebrow when i saw you using 12x at 100

Thank-you:), you may have just solved my problem. When looking at the clear blue sky I found it seemed like I was looking at a double crosshair. I had to turn that ocular lense out a long way (about 1/8") before the double crosshair disappeared. I don't seem to have that problem now :), We'll see what happens when (if) I can get back to the range. With almost 2' of wet snow it's getting hard to get to :(

Trying to test the rifle required lots of mag. Used to use 24x at the 100yd range all the time with V-rifles with no problem? I just can't see a very small target well enough with a 4-6x scope to test my loads?

And that's why I always shoot with both eyes open, regardless of scope magnification. You simply can't maintain focus for long with one eye closed - your sighting eye is going to blur on you. I'm right handed and right master eyed with very good long range vision in my right eye, but 15 seconds of that eye peering thru a 14X scope at paper messes me up fast if I closed the left eye.

I had the same thing last night at the range. My scope with AO no issue. The cheaper scope, it was an issue. If look at bench (focus near) then through scope could see reticle, if look through scope would see target and reticle would disappear. Tried adjusting the ocular lens but to no avail - both with glasses on and off.

Will try again on Friday, will use the cheaper scope first to see if fatigue issue then it should show later with the better AO adjustable scope. Will also try the no background method (not using the sun).
