Scope or not to scope that is the question? ( my version of Shakespeare) I`m getting a High power pellet rifle and wonder if a scope is really needed for it as will only be used for hunting gophers magpies etc?

I guess that depends on how good your eyes are...A scope makes for pin point viewing, and can help you to see everything closer....I put those or red dots on most units I have...KEN.

My Gamo Hornet (1000 w/lead, 1200 w/PBA) came with a scope. my 495's all never had a scope, I can get OK grouping with hard sights at close range (20 yrds or less), but I prefer a scope. I kill rabbits with my Hornet & Gamo Lethal ammo, from about 20 to 30 yards, almost always a head shot.

I like JSB Predator Polymags for game like grouse, crows, gophers ,pigeons and magpies. The pellets double in diameter on impact. In both .22 and .177 Harold

Just about every Bushnell is supposed to be springer rated, but I'd stick with a Banner 4-12x AO. Not too big, not too pricey, and the adjustable objective will help with ranging. The Canadian Airgun Forum store also has a Bushnell 5-15x AO that a lot of people like for a bit more money.

Depends on which rifle you want to mount it on....Springer, will need to be airgun rated for shock and vibration...CO2 or pneumatic or PCP won't....It nice to have an adjustable objective for ranging...KEN.

Personally I like a scope. For hunting there are plenty of 3-9x scopes that aren't expensive and will handle any airgun out there. With an airgun I think you do need to be a bit careful with shot placement. I personally wouldn't shoot a gopher with a high-powered airgun, but if someone was planning to, they better be sure they can make a clean headshot.
