Ok folks, a gorgeous K31 showed up on my door step today and I just had to take her in!

Questions:

1.) Is there any good websites for maintenance? Must have books?

2.) I bought a clamp on mount to go with it. It sits to the right of the barrel. I am wondering if people adjust their shooting style to adjust for this, or I they use any sort of special rings.

3.) What rings are you guys using? I have a bushnell 3200 elite bone collector DOA sitting in the closet ready to go.

Pics to come today!

Congratulations on joining the rest of the Swiss Schtuff crowd!

1. THE definitive site is www.swissrifles.com.

2. THE definitive book is 'Swiss Magazine Loading Rifles 1869 - 1958' by Joe Poyer. All of the relevant manuals have been translated into English [from German, French and Italian] and can be found as stickies on our site.

3. No need to adjust your style much - you get used to it pretty quickly. Remember that you'll need 11mm rings - the type used on air-guns, and the height depends on the clearance of the scope bells. One of our members, czechmauseritis, is a gifted leatherworker and makes a v. fine cheek piece to raise your POV, if necessary. I'm an average guy and I don't use one, but I have my Swedish ancestor's Scandinavian cheekbones [!]

4. Look forward to seeing you over on the site - drop by and say hi!

PS - Have you got a soldier tag under the butt-plate? If so, do tell.

1) Sign up at swissrifles.com and read up.

2) I used the same mount for load development and just got used to having to get over to the right mounted scope.

3) I used Burris Signature Zee rimfire rings, medium height (the scope mount I have has the standard rimfire 3/8" dovetail on it). The Sig Zee rings have plastic inserts in them to accommodate any misalignment in the system. They also do not mark the scope in any way and allow you to use offset inserts to add elevation if you want. The scope used was a Bushnell 3200 3-9x40.

1 A) What do you need to know?

2&3 A) Avoid see-through rings like the plague. Use 3/8" dovetails rings with a solid flat bottom, preferably ones that you can adjust laterally slightly. Like Tikka Millette, or Warne. The adjustable ones are nice in case your barrel, receiver and thumb cutout are not in good alignment. This might cause you to run out of adjustments if using a scope with limited range of adjustment. Not a problem for 80-90% of the K31s.

BTW 3/8" base dovetails over here in North America are the same as what the Europeans refer to as 11mm dovetail.
Over here we measure from the narrow part of the dovetail while they measure from the widest part. Exact same thing.

Ok folks! I got a couple pics up. My computer is being ridiculously slow. Looks like a little tiger striping! I'm not sure, maybe it's chemicals that made those stripes? Either way I love it.

I'm guessing the scope will have to be zero'd at a set distance? And windage adjustments made for increases in distance?

I will look into the recommendations for rings. Like I said I'm mounting my bushnell 3200.

Why would I need rimfire rings? I am confused by this part.

Swiss Products scope mount is made for 3/8" dovetail base rings. Wider base rings would interfere with ejection and loading with any form of stripper clips or Swiss Chargers.
EG Weaver ring bases and others are 7/8"-1" wide. Will not attach to the mount .

Do not recommend sight in at less than 50 yds or meters because of the offset on the mount.
Shoot the iron sights first and make sure they're sighted in reasonable well.
If so, use them to bore sight the scope at 50 or 100yds/m.

I inch scope offset and sighted in at 50 will give a POI one inch left at 100yds.
(Now if you are good enough, and the rifle is worth it's weight in gold
for it's above average accuracy, then : )
Sighted in at 100yds will give 1 inch left at 200 yds.
Sighted in at 200yds will give 1 inch left at 400 yds.
The further out you sight in the less of a difference it makes.
Wind and what group size your rifle is capable of becomes more of a factor the scope offset.

If you don't know how to bore sight by eye you could aim for the corners of the target until you get something on the paper

Awesome. Thanks for the help guys.
All that's left now is finding the appropriate rings (I'll give the tikka millettes a whirl and see what is for sale).

I am also amazed at the trigger. It's the best trigger I've ever felt. Smooth as butter, light, and breaks crisply.

Maybe I'll be able to post some more pics later, and I'll pull the butt plate and look for the info.

Awesome! Thanks! I'm just tracking down some rings here for the scope set up.

So far everything has impressed me about the rifle! Even the GP11 packaging was pleasant! Haha

I'm going to be getting a nice leather sling, bayonet, and maybe a nice custom leather cheek riser if she turns out to be an accurate old girl.

Congratulations on your new K31. The arrival of GP11 at Tradeex spurred me on to order a crate and to add a second K31 to my collection (I have one of the police-issued K31s and wanted something a little "rougher" that I could take hunting without worrying about marking it up):

Welcome to the club! K-31's are a piece of art. I shoot mine open irons and have consistently hit clay pidgeons lying flat on their side at 100M. Ever since I bought a K-31 I have been an avid collector of Swiss firearms.
