Just mounted a new scope on my rem 22-250 and can not get enough elevation? what should I do , shim the weaver base??? any help would be great. ( scope is a center point 6x24x50 and was only at 25yrds when I could'nt get the bullets high enough

I know this sounds silly, but make sure the scope is oriented properly in regards to horizontal and vertical. Some scopes have way less vertical adjustment to them. Also, check to make sure you have the mounts on right, I've seen set ups where you could swap them with disastrous results. Once you've eliminated these things, I would personally get a set of Burris rings with inserts and use that, less chance of damaging your scope then shims (which you can use, but must be careful with). Check and make sure you have the proper bases and the rings match. I got an incredible deal on a M70 with scope, rings, and bases to discover it couldn't be sighted in at 100 yards without running out of scope elevation.
Someone had installed the wrong rear base on the gun. Replaced it with the proper M70 rear base and it was only a few inches out at 100m after boresighting.

If the bases are correct then you will have to place a shim or two under the rear base to get more elevation.

At 25 yards your bullets should be about an inch or an inch and a half low... that is about how far your scope is above the bore...

If you sight you rifle to be on or high at 25 yards you will be shooting over your target at 100 yards...

Make sure mounts/bases are of the same hight, I had similar problem and it turned out the bases were of slightly dif height.

If you decide to shim the bases, make sure that the bases are inline.

Raising one higher but not angling both front and rear will distort that scope tube immensely.

The simplest solution is a set of Burris Sig rings w/ inserts. The inserts allow you to shim your scope to center windage and also give more elevation adjustment.

PM if you would like a set.

MP x2. The rings with inserts are great. Another alternative and just aseffective, is to lap the base arcs of the rings. The major problem with lapping, is the rings are now limited for use on that particular rifle.
