Hello fellows, got myself a Remington 700 VLS in .308 last night. Really new to (actually know almost nothing about) modern rifles.
Can you guys please recommend me a few good scopes for the said Rem 700? Oh and please tell me what type of scope mount/ring/thingy I need to have it installed?
My price range is within $1000 for the scope and mounting accessories.
I'm trying to learn more of this rifle but don't even know where to look... Thanks in advance fellas!

If you want someone to suggest a scope, the absolute most important piece of info to include is what the rifle will be used for...

My sincere apologies you're right my bad. I'm hoping to take her down the long ranges for target shooting.

Thank you for the reminder!

In your price range, look on the EE for a Busnell Elite 4.5-30. I have a few of them on VLS rifles, they work well for the price. - dan

No 'apologies'! Just trying to help you out to get the best responses from a great forum! Might want to edit the original post you put up to put in that its for 'target shooting' and the distance you will be shooting. To go even further, there are a bunch of target shooting styles.. PRS, F-class etc.

For range 'target shooting' I would personally suggest a scope in at least the 4-16 / 3-15 but preferably the 6-24 / 5-25 zoom range in first focal plane, a standard MIL/MOA reticle, with exposed turrets...

also, 1" and 30mm tube scopes you can find rings that are usable quality for pretty cheap ($30-50) but soon as you go to a 34mm tube scope rings start around $100, but generally the bigger tube scopes will allow more adjustable elevation.

I just got a Primary Arms SLX 3-18x50mm. It has a first focal plane illuminated reticle optimized for a .308 or 6.5GRN. It is fantastic scope. I have it on my Savage Axis II Precision rifle. The clarity and quality of the glass is great, and the multi-setting illuminated reticle is great for these tired old eyes. The turrets pop out to adjust and then pop back in to lock. This scope takes 30mm rings

Thank you very much guys, wow the terms you guys use I have to google. Will be doing some homework this weekend, thanks again for the input!
