scope ring height?

Hey Gents,

Looking to mount a scope on my SA M1A Nat'l Match and was wondering what scope ring height I will need to just clear the hand guard and or rear sight aperture. I have an ARMS 18 mount on the way and would like to use the ARMS 22 throw lever rings. Max scope objective size I would use would be 50mm. I would obviously like to keep the scope as low as possible. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I'd re-think the 50mm scope too. Usually big and heavy. A .308, of any kind, doesn't need a great big scope anyway. In magnification or the lenses. A scope is just a sight that lets you see the target better. They don't make any rifle shoot better.
Mind you, a lot depends on what you're planning on doing with it.

Where did you find an ARMS 18 mount in stock? I've looked high and low to no avail.

I only mentioned the 50mm obj so I had the option to mount one if I felt like it. I only want one set of rings. I've been considering a NF 3.5x15 for the rifle. They either have 50 or 56mm objectives. I'm not too worried about weight. I prefer to shoot with the irons but a scope makes load development much more effective. I plan to shoot the rifle in Service Rifle and Precision Rifle matches to mix things up once in a while. Mostly just have fun with silhouettes out to 500 or practicing at longer ranges.

I ordered mine from Wolverine Supplies. They have another shipment in customs I was told the other day. Give Rob a call and perhaps you can get one before they're all spoken for. They also come up on the EE every few months or so. Usually for around $200. I paid $225 delivered. Good luck.
