scope Rings for magnum rifle

Almost all rings will work when installed properly.

Personally , I am now using Burris Signature Zee on everything.

They have inserts that make lapping unnecessary and also protect your scope from ring marks. These allow the scope to kind of "float" in the rings without causing stress on the scope tube.

They can also be used with off set inserts when more elevation or windage is needed with out shimming.

i like talley one piece light weights. other than that leup or almost anything but weavers. hold like a damm but mark up the scope too much.

"Best" will depend on who you talk to... what their preferences in a ring/base combination are.

I can tell you that dual dovetail Leupold rings and bases, correctly installed and the rings lapped are an economical and extremely solid trouble free way of mounting a scope and not marking the tube... I highly recommend that system if you don't need quick detach/attach your scope.

They make a clean looking mount. Here is a picture with them on a 700. Medium rings and a 3.5-10x40.

Leupold DD used to be my choice but now for most rifles I prefer Talley lightweights. You may not get ringmarks from DD but you will get rust marks :)

I've used well over a dozen sets of the Talley LW's and I've finally had enough. There is to much give in them, I've seen them break, the componentry is garbage, base screws don't stay tight, and in rough use see them shift zero. Besides they are much higher than they need to be and the X-Lows limit scope mounting options severely. Plus, I just took a set off, and the base screws had rusted pretty significantly under the base.

These are all things I've never encountered with DD's.

I would have to agree with Chucks experiences on the Talley LW rings. I have used around ten sets and will not own anymore unless they are my last option. When I pulled one of my sheep hunting rifles out of the safe to take pictures of it to sell it I noticed a big crack in one of the bases and didn't really know how long it had been there but was glad I found it when I did and not 20 miles back in the bush.

S&K rings, Leupold DD's and Talley steel split rings are my three top choices now.

Leupold dual dovetails or TPS. Just mounted a set of TPS in the THR style, Aluminum and they appear well built, light and robust.

I have several rifles (some magnums included) equipped with Leupold dovetail bases (either one piece or two piece depending on the rifle) and matching STD rings in the appropriate height. Have had these in place for a while now and they are definitely my favourite scope mounts. Absolutely. While you may wish to lap them (or have them lapped) I have found this to be completely unnecessary for the average joe's hunting requirements. I move scopes around from rifle to rifle and have yet to mark a scope with Leupold rings right out of the package.

If your getting rust, your making 2 errors. First, your not applying a light coat of oil (like Barricade) to the rings prior to installation, and second your not servicing your gun, and the rings are the least of your worries.

not my rifles. I use Talley lightweights. I mounted about eight hundred scopes since 2006. Haven't seen a failure with a Talley yet, maybe we're lucky ;)
