First off, I'm new to everything that relates to optics! Secondly, I did a search but didn't find anything that answers my questions:D

I was wondering if someone could tell me why there is such a difference in the cost of scope rings? I'm looking for a pair for my Bushnell 6500 Elite 2.5 - 16 going on my m305...what kind of rings should I go with?

Differences come from materials, and tolerances mostly.

For your gun something all steel would be recommended, and I would go with something in a heavy tactical style ring for the strength.

Heavy recoiling semi's tend to give a beating to optics setups so the stronger the better.
 
Keep in mind the 14/305 will eat optics and mounts if you don't get good ones. That said, most tactical rings are pretty damn overbuilt. But from what I understand there are some really poor quality bases made for those rifles so make sure you do your homework.

What's your opinion on my setup: CASM II with Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 with some tactical steel rings? Will it hold up?
