I have been playing around with my new rifle setup, and noticed today that my scope had worked its way forward about an inch after 100 rounds. It is the tube sliding through the rings. I checked everything and it is all tight. is this a common problem, how do i prevent this?

Setup is:
Tikka T3 Varmint .308
Bushnell Elite 6500
Leupold Rings

Thanks,
Evan

one inch , and you could not tell what was moving:D , if a weaver style base, then thats not moving, Heck show a pic,
Things to look at, degrease tube, and rings, blue loctite the bases to the action, but just degrease the ring screws. Not sure if this will help your setup. A 308 in Varmint has very low recoil, are you into handloads? what load?

When the rifle fires, it recoils backwards & the scope wants to stay where it is so after a while the scope has moved.

The only time it has happened to me was when I did not have the scope ring screws tightened properly.
My suggestion would be to make sure that the screws are tight. Not reefed down but tight.

You may find that the ring screws have loosened slightly after the first few rounds. Reset the scope to its right position, clean mating surfaces, retighten screws. Check screws after a few more rounds.

I've had similar problems in the past. Maybe I'm just too chicken to put enough torque on a 6-32 screw that's threaded into aluminum. A torque wrench and torque spec might help. I put a very thin stripe of 5 minute epoxy in the ring and cap. Rub the tube with a very lightly oiled patch first to act as a release agent (if you ever want to get it off again!) PVA mould release or wax will also work.
