I was shooting my 444P yesterday and have a VIII 1.5-5 mounted on Weaver base in Burris Z rings. I did make sure the rings and bases were tight, but the scope kept sliding forward. Any ideas or suggestions? Didn't want to tighten them too much and risk damaging the scope tube.

Where would I get some of that two sided tape? Would there be an advantage going to the Signature rings with the inserts?

Two sided tape is avail at any engraving store. Signature rings have the plastic insert so you do not mark up the tube on your scope.

scope slip

Step 1:Take some alcohol and degrease the inside of the scope rings and the scope body where the rings will sit.
Step2: Take some powdered rosin Brownells sells it or you can get a batters bag from any serious sports supply store and put some rosin (light coat) inside the scope rings. assemble, tighten securely and wipe off any excess from exposed positioning/leveling the scope. Use this on all heavy recoil guns I have worked on. If the scope slips your rings are not tight enough or of good enough quality. Oh and it becomes evident since slipping will expose more rosin covered scope body.

Best Regards

You can also use Plasti-Dip or brush on electrical tape. Lightly scuff the inside of the rings with emery cloth, brush the Plasti-Dip on, install the scope and clean up any excess that gets squeezed out.

This method beds the scope to the rings and it will not move under the heaviest recoil.
