Okay I have had problmes with my .350 rem mag in 673. I have posted a ? on this gun before and got lots of help.

But i think i have narrowed it down, I took the gun apart and checked everything... I marked the scope with a pencil on both rings, after about 6 rounds through it i found that the rear ring had moved slightly. So i checked and found that the screws on the rings became loose.

I have not yet applied locktite, thats next.

My question is how tight do i tighten the rings??? I feel that if I apply any more pressue I am going to break the screw, yet they always seem to come loose. I am hoping loctite will fix the loosening problem..... but how tight??

any other help on keeping that scope fromm moving would be great.

I would take it in to a gun smith and have them look at it but there are no gun smiths within a 3hr drive....

thanks.

You didn't mention the make of rings...

I would however never recommend using loctite on ring screws. You would be simply loctiting loose screws in place and have a hell of a time removing them when your scope slips again.

The problem is not with the screws working loose... they are not tight to start with... I have never experienced a tight ring screw working loose.

I would recommend cleaning the tube and the inside of the rings well and then using powdered rosin and tighten the rings screws with a little lubricant on them so they will torque tight more easily than a dry fit.

Ring screws should be tight enough at 40 inch pounds.

Some cheap rings do not ever work well...

Dennis, you're becoming a sh!t disturber.... I had the scope slip on my .22, but that was because it fell out of the rack at the range.... I slid it back to where it was supposed to be (pencil marks rule) and snugged her up to German Torque specification (Gutentight!) :p

Just had a idea while working on my remington .22 A easy way to see if your scope or mounts on a .22 would be to abbly a 1/16 piece of black pinstriping agains the receiver/scope mont or on the scope tube along side the ring to see if its slipping.
Wont come off like a pencil mark and is black and should look ok me thinks!!!!

I'd be more concerned with bending a tube than breaking a screw.

Scope caps are usually tightened 20-30 in-lbs.
