Scope suggestion for savage model 10 308

Looking for some recommendations for a scope for my new 308 savage model 10. This will be first scope if ever bought. Getting a little overwhelmed after researching scopes. Was thinking about nikon m-308 in something with decent magnification or a redfield battlezone 3-9. Don't think I'll be shooting past 500 yards for awhile as just getting into shooting and buying the gun kinda used up most of my hobby funds. Any thoughts would be welcomed.
 
I have a Nikon P-223 3-9x40 on my mossberg mvp .223 and I love it. I'm looking also to purchase a .308 savage and will probably add a Nikon M-308 scope price is reasonable and good quality
 
I just bought a Vortex Diamonback for my Browning x-bolt .308 with the dead hold bdc, its a pretty fine scope, I'm just about to get it mounted, the only reason i know its a great scope, is because my buddy has one mounted on M305, great clarity, awesome reticle, lifetime no question warranty, and the price is right. Should check them out if possible.
 
My budget was going to be $400 but after doing some more looking, the vortex viper HS-T seems to be my first choice and has the features that I'm looking for so may have to save up a little more. Anyone using this scope?
