Looking for a scope to mount to my cantilever slug barrel on my Remington 870. Would like to spend around $100. Never purchased a scope and would appreciate some input. This ease of adjustment and durability should be important. Was looking at some at SAIL for around that $$

Would consider used as well.

Thanks

Spend $200 and get a low end Leupold like a VXI or a Rifleman, or a Redfield or Burris Fullfield II. I'd be really skeptical of the reliability of a scope that is only $100.00. I don't demand high end optics, but I can't stand failure in a scope.

i think you have to up your budget to at least $200. a hundred $ scope probably won't last to long on a slug gun. arround two hundred is a lot of used choices elete 3200, vx1, redfield, maybe nikon.

Only if you were goint to a mid range fixed scope would I consider a under 200 scope to be practical, especially for that use. I have one myself, and there's a Burris Fullfield 2-7x32 with 6" eye relief on it. Good solid scope. Used Leupy's pop up every now & then a good 1-4 or 2-7 would fill the bill. Not that there aren't lemons on those lines, but they are very few & far between.

The trophy 2-7x36 with 5" eye relief for around $150 would be the least I would spend on a scope for a slug gun. I've used a nikon prostaff 2-7x32 on my 870 for the past 4 seasons and have had no problems but I'd still like to put a slughunter on it. Stay away from the banners and make sure it has enough eye relief that you can shoot with confidence.

I picked up a Busnell Trophy Slughunter for $140 on a no tax sale. Have to pick up rings tonight and they are mounting and bore sighting it for free. Seemed like a good deal to me.
