Hey all,
I have a vanguard S2 in .308 win and am searching for a scope (used market mostly). I have a set of 1” Talley one piece rings/bases for it, budget is around $260-300. It’s use is going to be somewhat of a toss up between Nutnfancy’s “lightweight tactical bolt” review (target shooting, varied positions) and for game.
Hunting shots would be 100 yards or so and the target shooting up to 300yard max. I’m not the best shooter, skills are always improving, I’m wondering if I can find something decent to cover these areas.

Thanks in advance.
If anyone is selling a scope within the recommendation feel free to PM.

I would try and track down an older Leupold scope on the EE like a 2-7 or 3-9. With some luck you might find one for around your $300 budget mark. As long as the glass is in nice shape you are good to go. Even if it has a few external nicks on the tube it is still covered by Leupolds lifetime warranty.
I put a Lupy on my Vanguard .308 and it is perfect for my hunting needs

I have a 20” barreled Howa 1500 in .308, so basically the same action/rifle as your Vanguard. I put a Nikon P5 2-10x40 on it this year, it’s a hunting/target rifle for me. 2-10 is great for hunting out to 300y easily and I would have no problem target shooting a bit further with it. I have a set of med Leupold prw’s on it but have the room to go with a set of low rings if I felt like it, it’s got a full picatinny rail and not bases.

There is a VX-2 -2-7x33 in the ee right now.
Was new never mounted ....so basically new old stock.
Good for what the op is looking to accomplish.

I ended up picking up a LNIB Leupold VX1 3-9x40 on the EE. I like the fact that Leupolds come with a no receipt needed lifetime warranty, all the reviews say the glass is great as well. Plus it’s got long eye relief which I was looking for as for some reason I’ve had troubles with some scopes lining up well and fitting my eye unless it’s much closer

If you are interested, that Leupold scope will have a serial number on it - underneath the turrets - can go to the Leupold site and look up what year it was made. More for curiosity - the "lifetime" warranty for Leupold scopes definitely still applies. Like most other things, there are varying grades of scopes made by Leupold - some higher end ones might be worth their higher price to some people. A 3-9x40 VX-1 will handle pretty well anything that your 308 Win can do - most of it will be on you, not the gear.

The Leupold warranty thing - I probably have or have had 12 or 15 Leupold scopes - not one has ever failed in any way - but of course I can only use one at a time. I do have two used ones that I bought on CGN that sellers said they were "checked out" by Korth, but I have never had to send one in myself, for any reason.
