I am thinking of upgrading the optic (3200 tactical 10X) to some thing a bit better since I am getting a MDT TAC21 chassis for my rem .308. I am thinking some thing in the 500$ range, if I can have a smocking deal I will put a bit more $$.

One of the reasons that I want to upgrade is that at 300M the picture is not that clear in the 3200 and lot of better optic have a focus adjustment dial on the side. Dou you guys play a lot whit this? I would also like to go to 1Km one day whit this optic.

I intend to do some tactical shooting more then precision shooting (unknow distance).

So far I think my best option would be the Falcon 5.5X 25, I am also looking at millet and Might be the Sightron tactical 16X.

Anny idea and advice about the focus thing?

The focus thing is really focus and parallax adjustment. When parallax is zero you cannot look around the cross hairs by moving your head (eye). They will appear drawn right on the target. When parallax is zero you will have maximum accuracy, as the scope is insensitive to eye position. Most fixed centerfire scopes have the parallax set at 100 yards, or sometimes 150 yards. Parallax error tends to be more significant are shorter distances rather than longer.

So, that said a scope with a parallax/focus adjustment will tend to be more accurate and the focus sharper (focus effect is minimal at long distances) when set for the exact range you are shooting. For rimfire guys shooting at short distances (25 and 50 yards) this is very important. But the effect is more significant as the power of the scope goes up even at long distances.

My opinion is that while the side focus style scopes are currently trendy, they are inferior technically to the adjustable objective style scopes. Side focus is handy, but much more crude/coarse in adjustment than an adjustable objective. While not an issue for long distance, they also frequently do not focus to short distances like an adjustable objective style does. SF is also more expensive, so adds cost to the scope and probably overall reduces quality.

Hope that helps some.

Stateside there's some fairly hot deals happening on Bushnell Elite scopes. Clearing inventories because the 3200 and 4200 series scopes have been replaced with "Elite" series, which is the same as the 4200, but without the "4200" name.

Don't know if this is going to happen up here for sure, but I suspect that if you're patient, you might be able to scoop a deal on a 4200 4x16x40 or 6x24x40 size scope. These have AO, 1/8" adjustments, excellent optics, and are well made (Japan). Would be a great choice for a long range shooter.

Thinking would land well inside your budget of $500.

I Intend to up grade, not pay more for the same quality!

1/8 adjustement won't do it since I will probably change shooting distance ofthen.

Ron AKA: verry good response, that already more then what I was hoping for.

For your stated budget, you can buy a Vortex Viper 6.5-20X50. It is built on a 30mm tube, has a side focus knob that I really like on mine, and has a choice of reticles, either a BDC, V Plex Wide or a Mil Dot. I have been using one for a while now and I really like it. Never caused a hiccup and it tracks well, has clear glass, and a great warranty.

I second that! Vortex has a damn nice scope for the price and the warranty is superb! (If you ever have to use it)

Im personally going to buy a Viper PST when I get my tax return and sell my Falcon Menace. The Falcon line of scopes is pretty good for the cash aswell.

If I read your post well, you prefer tactical shooting before target shooting. Obviously, you want a scope with tactical turrets, good tracking, lots of adjustment and clear, adjustable image.
I had an Elite 3200 10x also, and I sold it because of the lack of focus/parallax ajustement.
I got a SuperSniper 10x and I'd say it's one of the best tactical scope out there for the price, you can get better, but you'll be close to $1k with taxes.
I had both the SWFA version and the NS version, in 10x and 16x flavour, both are the same optics and mechanic.
Neat fine Mil-dot crosshairs and rear focus/parallax adjustements
Try to find one of those on the EE board, I've seen one in the last few days.
