I've recently purchased a Marlin 336 in 30-30. I figure that at max I'll be shooting 150 yds, and that 95% most of my shooting will be 50-100 yds. It's my tree stand deer/black bear rifle.

I'm trying to decide between a low power scope (1-5 X max) a Skinner peep sight and a red dot. I have a 3-9X40 right now but I think it might be a bit much.

Also my eyes ain't what they used to wuz. Opinions?

Depends where you are and under what condiditons you'll be hunting.

I took my scope off of my shoot gun and rifle because they were either getting wet from the rain or getting foggy from the cold.

50-100 yards iron sights should do you!

Stay away from the reddot, as it depends on battery there is one more thing to fail. and not very visible under some lightening condition, unless if you go highend, but then you'll be better off with raingaurd 3200 scope.
So scope or iron sight, depends on which one you are more comfortable with.

if the only shooting you will do is 8 or 9 in the morning than pick the one you like the best, their are guys doing 1000 yards with open sights, but if there is a chance that you will be in a treeed area(like in a tree stand) and getting close to dark a scope will let you hunt right till legal time where open sights or red dots will not!!! been there, with red dot,big deer but couldn't see well enough to shoot. Now there is a scope on that rifle and anything else that I hunt with!!
