I am looking at a used scope to fit my 303.

Scopechief VI 3x9 x 40 - multi x parallax reticle with yardage indicator and bullet drop compensator.

I am short on the terms used...

What is the multi x parallax reticle in this case?

What is the bullet drop compensator? (I have searched this forum but I could not find a satisfactory explanation.)

Any comments from other owners regarding this scope would be great.

(I hunt deer from 50 to 150 yds)

Regards
Ron R

I have one on my Parker Hale 30-06. A fixed 4x.

On mine the reticle looks like the top left one marked Multi-X

The BDC is is the Elevation adjustment that is marked in Yards.
Sight in @ 100 with the yardage marked 100.
Shooting @ 200? Set range for 200.

Limited use with only a 4x for me. Replacing mine soon.
For 50-150 yards it would be perfect if the price was right.

Edit: If yours is the newer one it might have
The scope has a prismatic rangefinder and bullet drop comp. The additional horizontal line represents about 14" between the two. (which is a reasonable kill zone on chest cavity of most big game) So if you crank up the power until that zone is between the lines, the little window at the top will tell how many yards it is. If it says 250 then turn the elevation dial to 250 and shoot. You will need to find out what disk is in the elevation dial because there are different disks for different bullet weights.

BDC also will somewhat tell you the yardage.
You "fit" the animal in question between the duplex reticle.
Pick the type (basically size) on the bell.
It then gives you the yardage which you just dial on the turret.
