Any suggestions on scopes? Anyone here have any issues with the heavy forward motion of the bolt damaging scopes?

Leupold, Zeiss (conquests is a good bargain), Nightforce, US Optics. Lots of people like Vortex too but I've heard of some people that had scopes that couldn't stand the M14 forces.

What's your budget?

M14's have a reputation for destroying scopes.

Tony.

Not in the budget this year but next year it sure is. I'll keep my budget under 1000$ though. That's why I asked I hear they like eating scopes.

I run trijicon TR23's on my couple m25's no issues at all, they are a little out of your budget but a good used one could be found for around 1000. I've also used Leupold mk4 and B&L 4000 tactical fixed 10x on them with no hiccups. All were solid and held up fine.

Well that's the budget I say I'll stick to however I'll likely break down and do twice that if it comes to it lol. Moving west in a year to a waaaay bigger budget.

The only scopes I've had an M-14 eat were both tascos.

2.5-10x44 "varmint"

3-9x40 "world class"

Both were OK scopes.

The first one was on a 22lr for a couple of years, it was then on a AR for a ladder test or 3. I no longer had a use for it. The LGS where I bought the scope told me it had a lifetime warranty so I tossed it onto a NCStar M-14 mount, mounted it to a M305 and it didn't last 10 rounds. It was replaced under warranty even tho it was 5 or 6 yrs old.

The second one was on a .243 for 6-7 yrs. I replaced it with a red field 4-12x40, so I figured I would try it on a M-14 as well (shortly after the previous scope calved) it actually lasted 3 range trips, and the the variable power ring would no longer adjust.... The scope was still holding zero! It too was replaced under warranty.

Not bad if you consider the "expensive" one was $129......

The replacement world class scope was put into an ARMS-18 mount and it held up through over 500 rnds on a M-305. In fact that same scope is currently sitting atop a Winchester model 70 in 30-06!

I have since learned that the mount (scope mount attached to the receiver) plays a much bigger role than just a point to attach you scope to the rifle..... It is my opinion that a cheap mount will burn through scopes much quicker than good solid mount. Considering I currently have a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 on a basset mount that I swap from rifle to rifle. It is on its second rifle at this point and has fired 350+rounds of ammo, and it still is holding zero.

If you start with a decent mount; ARMS 18, M-14.ca or a Basset mount, your scope choice shouldn't matter if spending $300+ In a hunting style optic.

The pro-mag ARMS copy is a good option as well, it's steel and it doesn't have a solid rail up top, which is nice. If there is no solid pic rail you have fewer options for mounting location, but you gain in not getting stove pipes and jams!

If you like bdc reticles, the Burris XTR 1.5-6 is great for me.
They stopped making it to lauch the newer XTR2 line but a used one would be 6-800$.

I am running a Leupold Mark IV 3.5-10 x 40 LR/T M1 mil dot - mostly stock M1A - best scope I was ever conned into buying by Bob (RIP) at WSS in YYC.
I get repeatable +/- 1 MOA groups with M852 copies.

If you can find it with the original army surplus mount, the Koor Industries 6x40mm scope once used by the Israeli Army in the late 70s early 80s.
Range finding reticle for M118 ammunition and an integral sunshade.

It's 26mm diameter though. This combination was their urban sniper setup for the M14s that came from the USA and the scope for thier own 7.62 Galil rifle.

Not to hijack, but has anyone had luck with Sightron? I've read decent things about the SIII 1-7x24 but haven't heard much specific to the m14...

I have a $150 Sightron S I 3-9x40 on my M-305.
holds zero and the crosshairs are still attached. About 300 rounds fired with the scope attached so far

I went looking for a leupold as I heard that "m14" rifles were hard on scopes. I came home with a vortex viper 3-9 with bullet drop compensator. I've put about 1000 rounds through it without problems. Shoots less than 1.5 moa with certain ammo.

I have a bushnell 10x40. Granted I've only put about 200 rounds through, but doesn't seem to have any issues. It's a basset mount also. Great clear glass, and cheap.
