I just wanted to tell everyone that I took one for the team and ordered a Leupy 6.5 -20 x40 vx3 long range from a supplier in the states. I inquired specifically about the export ban and they indicated that this was not a problem. The scope arrived yesterday well packaged. It had been stopped and examined by customs and I had to pay the tax (still saved about $200) from what it would have cost Canadian Mail order. No duty since it was made in US and is exempt in free trade. No holdups or hickups at all. Might not be a typical experience but I think I am not too nervous about mail order anymore and still have a few other scopes to buy. Now I can get a nightforce!!!:) :) :)

cheers to all

Useful information to be sure, but some of us have learned, under threat from the mods, not to discuss these things on CGN. They're all experts on US law.

I had a long discussion with the sales person who advised that they routinely ship these products to canada without any issues. I was worried about paying for something I wouldn't get. She indicated that they have never had one seized or blocked. This was a varmint scope, I have heard some suggestion that the ban applies to mil dot reticles. In any case, the fact that my package was opened and examined and still sent on to me with tax bill suggests that there is no real issue here.

I am just recounting my experience

though i'm not going into details.... I have had Several experiences identical to those above. Seems these export laws are not even being enforced. Myself, now that I am aware of such laws... I ain't tempting fate and will GLADLY pay more to support the canadian market. Lack of sales of these types of items in canada gets noticed, it will "appear" that canadians don't want these items in canada if the retail market at home does not sell enough of them here, thus indicating a drop in the popularity of such firearm accessories. This is just one more bit of information that gets put to use by the ANTI's to tell the public and government that interest in firearms and shooting sports in canada is dwindling by showing them the retail stats on firearm related accessories. believe it.

Mine was delared 'rifle scope - 1, scope base - 1, scope rings - 2' with customs. The US side should have looked, I guess, if Canadian side looked.

No problems here either...

I have bought three scopes from the states on ebay and had them all arrive without even being opened by customs. Will order from there again. Still had to pay the tax though:mad:

Go to the U.S. Commerce Dept. Website and see for yourself that ALL scopes require a U.S. Export permit.

To those that keep insisting on posting about their newly aquired scopes that they recieved without the proper permits, U.S. law and CGN policy has been violated.

The consequence of violating CGN policy is suspension or permanent expulsion.

I suggest everyone go back and re-read the CGN board rules.

I am locking this thread.

SKBY.
