scopes

That is exactly what I put on my R22. Might be a bit of overkill, but it isn't out of place IMHO.

I've got the same scope in the Banner model. In my opinion 9X is the minimum for shooting paper or paint balls at 50 yards. 12X gives some extra resolution for precision shooting at 50 yards. For hunting or offhand work, the 3X9 is ideal.
Benchrest shooters are using 36X.

Not bad choices- just be aware that most 3-9X 40mm's have parrallax set at 100 yds. This usually isn't a problem if you can get the scope mounted low over the bore. For those situations where high rings/mounts are a must on a .22, I prefer to have an adjustable objective- it makes handling the close in stuff a bit easier....

There's a few 3-9X scopes out there made for .22 shooting- the Trashco Mag is one, and the Bushnell Sportview is another- with parrallax settings set at 50 yds....
