Hi fellow CGN's Need your help, need to get a good but cheap scope. (Hard order to fill) I'm looking at the 3x9x40 bushnell ultra hd multi X or the 3x9x40 Trophy xlt doa 600 or the 4x12x40 Trophy xlt. I'm looking to put it on either a 308 or perhaps a 300 win mag savage. Do you fellows have any comments to which one is better? Thanks in advance guys. Bob

Used some of the less expensive Bushnells. They're alright for what you pay, seemed to hold zero decently. I still have a Trophy on my in line muzzleloader with good results. You shouldn't have any real problems other than scope envy. I'd recommend looking around for a good deal on a Bushnells Elite if you don't mind waiting. I use them on my centre fires now and there's a definite quality difference for not that much more money. I've shot the less expensive Leupolds as well, also a good choice for not much more $.

Putting an airgun scope on a 300 win mag? That's not gonna last long.

OP, Leupolds have come up in price since I last looked. Last I saw they were $250, a few bucks more than the Bushnell's you listed. They're over $300 now. If you can wait, I still think they're worth the money. Having recently plunked a cheap high-magnification scope on my 223 (for target shooting), the quality is poor compared to the Leupold I took off it. I'll offer it for resale because it's just fine for varmint hunting but I need a clearer sight to see my 2" target at 200 yards. If you need a scope quickly hopefully someone will chime in with more info. Otherwise I'd recommend going into a store and asking to have a look down the scopes for yourself. Sight across the store and check clarity and brightness. Ask the opinion of the counter man or woman "Given a $250 budget, what would you choose and why?".

And don't be afraid to say "Thank you for your time" and walk away to think about it.

The Redfield line and definitely worth looking at and not overpriced for what you get.

I have normally gone with bushnell and had no complaints, but i have read all kinds of good things about the redfields and i have looked through a few and i think from this point forward they are going to be my go to lower cost scopes

i have leupolds, he wanted a reliable scope , my airgun scope sits on a lupa, for the last\ 1500 rds..no question about experience here! thanks
