Scopes ??

Weaver T36 has enough adjustment for 1000 yards with 20 moa base. i like mine and have no desires to spend 6 times the money for a slight upgrade. When i bought mine i remember paying about $400 for it new.

Although the Weaver T36 is a good scope for the price, it may not be what you want if you plan to compete in precision rifle matches. The field of view of the T36 is only 3ft at 100y. This means that you will likely miss some of the targets at the 200, 300 and even 400y/m matches. The first two matches have snap targets pop up over a 2m/8ft frontage. At the 400y/m match you may be ok but the FOV is also going to be rather limited for that match. If you go for a fixed power scope, stick to 10X. It should be good all the way out to 800y/m. Also, the 1/8 MOA per click turret adjustments are too fine for this shooting discipline. If you can find a scope in your price range that has 0.1 mil/click turrets, get one of those. Otherwise stick to 1/4 MOA/click. If you want minimal investment to get into the game, get a Bushnell Elite Tactical 10X40 scope. It has great optics and enough elevation adjustment to get you out to 800y/m without having to resort to special scope bases. In my experience, the adjustments are very accurate, i.e. if you do the "box" test. These scopes are around $275.00 and if you later replace it with a more expensive/capable scope, you'll have no problem reselling them for around $200.00. As a matter of fact, rather than buying new, check out this forum for a used example. Anyway, just my $0.02 from someone who has been involved in this game for many years.

Gilbert, if you are going to shoot at Debert, take a look through Adrian's or Bert's Sightrons and Sightron also has a nice fixed 10X.

Peter

minimum of 3X magnification for every hundred yards is a good rule of thumb. The Weaver is an excellent scope; I have two of them. Their only drawback - as with any high magnification fixed scope - is that it can be too much magnification on a hot sunny day with lots of mirage. You are better off with a variable power scope, but not better off with junk. The reality is... you get what you pay for in a scope. 10X is not powerful enough for 1000 F class shooting, but is probably fine for tactical shooting... all depends on the application.

SIII 8-32x56 is probably the best option to get into it and not be under scoped, at very reasonable cost.

Thumper-2 - What sort of longer range shooting do you wish to do? This will greatly affect the scope that would be optimum for your intended use.
$500 ceiling sort of limits choices. Somebody said "Buy once, cry once".
The 10X scope mentioned is probably the least expensive scope with a decent reputation. A Weaver KT15 is another option.
A good used scope would also be an option.

Well ,I was going to try 1000m and I got a scope on e-bay that's 10-40x50 for $180 .YES it's from China ,but it works good so far .I have a little hard time getting used to finding a mark or spot at 600,700 & 800 meters ,but I'm getting better. It's called "ZOS" from China and for the price ,it's ok for me at this point!!

You will remember the good advice you got on this post… when in competition your "good for now" scope no longer tracks.
It would be less maddening if, after receiving great advice, you said thank you, and went on your merry way without bragging about the $180. purchase.
One question, why two rifles and one scope?
Better to have 1 rifle, and good to excellent glass than …..
