I'm looking at scoping my new to me CZ42FS with a Leupold VX1 2x7x28. It's going to be mainly used for gophers and paper but at ranges up to 125 yards with hyper velocity ammo. Anyone have any experience with this kind of set up? Is the magnification too low? How would this scope do shooting beyond 50 yards? I've been using buddies Anshutz with a 3x9 and can get 80 and 100 yard shots on gophers and good groups paper. Is the 2x7 adequate for this?

7x may be fine for minute of gopher, but thats really dependent on how thick the reticle is.

As for ammo, avoid that hyper crap. It doesn't shoot well at all. Not only does it generally group like garbage, but it'll go subsonic around 80yds and then the groups open up even more.
Good old standard velocity, or even better subsonic is what you are after.

I have a Leupold VX1 2-7 Rimfire on a CZ 452 Scout, and a Nikon Prostaff 2x7 shotgun scope (75yd parallax) on CZ 452 Standard. For my eyes, there's no difference in optics, but the Leupold is slightly smaller and lighter, and Prostaff was cheaper. As to 2x7 being adequate for 100 yd plus shots... for plinking mostly at 50 yards it is just fine for me, but if I were looking to shoot mostly at around 100 yards, I'd like more magnification. But it all depends on your eyes and personal preference.
