I have a enfield 303, sporter smle III marked 1941 lithgow...... I'm not sure what i need to do to put a scope on it..... any ideas appreciated...

There are also "no gunsmithing" bases for the Enfields which take weaver type rings...I think Marstar sells one of these. As well, there are side mount arrangements which will do the job.

Like gunasauras said about the drilling, there will be two holes drilled over the chamber, then one at the back of the receiver. Be very carefull, make sure everything is in a vice. I just used a normal hand drill myself. make sure things are sqaure though before you start , especially the back.

But if you can get the side mount one, i would go with that. I kinda wish I hadn't drilled mine. I normally shoot open sight with it anyways, almost all my game has been 50 - 100 yards

Hey guy's, is there only the one 1-piece base for the Enfield action?
I have an old Bubba here that is tapped as you have mention, two hole in the front reciever ring and one at the charger(?) but no mount.
Would you mind giving some hole dimensions so I know what to look for.

Thanks!
Noel

Loogie,
The side mount I have was/is made by Weaver, and the no gunsmithing mount I have is an S&K which I picked up from another CGN member for about 1/2 of the price of a new one. You might want to try a WTB ad on the Exchange forum if/when you're ready to buy.

Hey Noel, from what I was told there was only the one piece base available. The distance betweent the two forward holes above the chamber is 1" or 2.5 cm, the distance from the farthest hole on the chamber to the rear hole on the reciever is 9", and that hole is off set to the left.

The offset hole is for mounting it on a No 4 Enfield. If you use the rear centre hole, it requires a spacer, and is designed for a No 1 Enfield....

Drilling and tapping the receiver is a last resort. The gun stores are full of rifles with the mounts already installed, undrilled your rifle can still be restored to military...

As gunasaurus mentioned, my rear mount hole is centered.

Loogie, if you want I know where the is an Enfield scoped already. Send me a PM if interested and I will point you to him.;)

Thanks for the help guys!

Noel
