Has anyone here done this, if so how? Also not sure what a good choice in optics would be. It's really not more than a 150 yrd rifle to me, so I don't need huge mag.

Thanks.

You can buy a replacement stock handguard, like the Ultimak or the Sage.

I put an EOTech on an Ultimak, but it really isn't something that I could recommend. This rifle is best at 50 yards. Anything more is pushing it. If accuracy at 150 yards was the objective, I would recommend that one avoid the Mini-14 altogether.

I have an ATI stock with a long front rail, so I guess if it's a scout style scope or holo/red dot (i.e. something with long relief) than I'd be ok. Just not sure if that's the direction I want to go. Good red dots and holo sights are expensive and hard to come by.

The 580 series has built in mounts for rings, right? I'm not sure where to get the attachment for a regular scope for mine. Which is why I'm leaning towards a scout scope/red dot type sight - something with more eye relief.

I'm kind of keen on a red dot anyways, but a 4x shotgun scope sounds like a really good idea too! Too many options...
