scoping a small Sako

I've been swapping and mounting scopes and my little Sako AI Hunter in .17 Remington had to give up it's Leupold rings to the 375...it wasn't a fair fight..anyway.....I had a 4-12X Leupy on the AI Sako but I'd like to go with something that fits the small short receiver a bit better.....
I'm thinking a Leupy 3-9 or 4-12 Compact with AO,...but what rings will fit the best?

Anyone have one of the small Sakos with a scope that doesn't overpower the small receiver for length but still has at least 9X on the top end?

I'd stay with Medium Leupold rings, low rings are not likely to work.

There's a Zeiss 2.5-8x32 Conquest on the EE. That's a bit less on high,but would look good on the AI

I had an A1 in .17 rem that looked good with s&k rings and bases. For optics I had an american made 3x9 zeiss diavari c. Short length balanced nicely 1" tube. Food for thought. Should have taken a picture......
