This may be an ancient question but I thought I'd ask anyways as there seems to be so much knowledge on this site that can be tapped. I have been researching the web and exchanging ideas with other shooters and even found a source of a decent base-scope arrangement for a Krag 30/40but located in the US and they won't ship here. Does/has anyone found parts that could be adapted to scope Krags or Carcanos and still have the safety work and still be able to feed more than one round at a time? I would really like to find a practical means to have a properly aligned scope directly above the action even if that height might look excessive. Any tips would be appreciated........karl

The Carcano would be tough - easy enough to use a side mount base and rings like a Savage 340, but then you can't load it with the clip. I would think an offset mount, if available, would be your only option if you want to use it as a repeater.

The Krag I think would be tougher to find a base to match the receiver contour, though loading / ejecting would be unaffected.

Either way, I assume you're putting these on previously sporterised rifles. The Krag in particular is worth more than your average modern deer rifle if original.
