I've had this Rem. 700 Classic in 375 H&H for twenty years. It's a backup for my 700 BDL 375 H&H and has sat idle all this time. So I thought what the heck, I have been wanting to experiment with a scout configuration. I took 3" off the barrel and fore end, remounted the front sight and installed a Lyman 17 AHB globe sight on it...there's a William WGRS on the rear. I recrowned the barrel. I reworked the inletting (which was hideous), and bedded it and floated the barrel. A Burris EER scope arrived the other day. Now I have a choice. I can mill my own rail, or mill my own individual mounts, or what looks easiest is if there's a market rail that extends across the bolt and sits high enough, I could simply reverse it, mill down the mount over the rear of the chambre to make use of those screws, and drill the new front of the rail to match the holes of the factory rear iron sight.

Does anyone know if such a rail exists?

Thanks for your input...

...figured it out.

Looking at the old B-Square scout rifle mounts for the 700 it would be very easy to mill a base that matches theirs and to leave the top flat. Once the base is mounted then I could mount whatever scope base that I wanted on the top of that base. Came to me in my sleep...awoke with the clear answer. Funny how that works...
