i was at the range the other day and a fella had a winchester 94 with a dr. pearson scope mount and it got me thinking hard about putting one together. Anybody here use a setup like this?

My retired friend is putting one together for me on a shortened bubba number 4 using an xs sights Clifton style mount. I think it’s going to be a very handy rifle but will definitely be at the top end of coopers weight.

I have a couple rifles setup with forward mounted scopes. m1 carbine I made a new handguard and have used it with red dots and is currently setup with a pistol scope. Sks is also setup the same way. Scopes are in front of the action which I find is excellent for a quick site picture. Much quicker to line your site up with your target than a regular mounted scope. When people have tried them they find it so easy and fast to get on target. If I could easily change some of my other rifles over I would likely do it.

Have a 2 X Leupold pistol scope mounted on a Pedersoli 86/71 lever action. Scope sits just forward of the ejection port(Top eject). Works very well in this position.

I have an old Win 94 with a Dr. Pearson scout mount and Leupold FX II scout. It is pretty handy. One could also be daring and put a red dot on it if desired.
With the old TOP-EJECT Win 94, scout mounts are realistically the only way to put an optic on the rifle... rather than a scout setup being the 'ideal' optic design.

Marlins are inherently easier and more versatile in terms of configuration for a variety of optics choices.

I've always been interested in a scout mount on a light and short bolt gun, might get around to putting one together.

Feedback from what I've read and tried, pros are counterbalancing the lack of weight in a short/skinny barrel and being very fast and pointable, and access to the top of the action. Cons are the image being washed out when you have the sun behind you... and some call the lack of FOV a con but I don't think these scopes are supposed to work that way, ie. it's just a sighting device and you're not supposed to get lost in the scope image.

I haven't used one in the field so take that for what it's worth.

How about this one?

M38, Vortex 2-7x, 2-3" groups with Chinese ball at 100yds. pleasantly loud.Very handy:cool:

I have Win 94 that I’ve long planned on doing the same thing but I’m pretty good at procrastinating and not completing my “projects”.

Picked up a now discontinued WWG scout mount meant for a Marlin but it seems to match the contour of my 16” Trapper barrel (Big Bore dia.) nicely. Just need to drill and tap the barrel. I need the front and rear barrel bands though as the barrel is thicker than the 20” Ranger barrel that it currently has.

Sadly it looks like Leupold has discontinued the FX II 2.5 Scout scope.

Do update the thread if you pursue this. Love the Scout concept.
