Scout scope on a Ruger No.1?

"Why" is a good question.... couldn't you just go with a regular ER compact scope? If you like the scout scope concept then by all means go for it.

I certainly could choose a compact. Just curious whether a scout would work (given that it would be mounted in the usual position rather than forward) and if the reduction in FOV would be too much to make it feasible. Probably answering my own question, I know.

I'm not sure that you could get a scout scope to mount on the #1, though I've never looked into the feasibility. I'd guedd that you'd have to attach a Weaver-style rail to the quarter rib in order to move the rings forward. Then I'd be concerned about the overall height of the scope. I'd be more inclined to go with a 1.5-5x Leupold which can be tucked in low and has pretty decent eye relief.

I think you're probably right. Maybe something like a Leupold VX-3, 1.5-5x20mm.
