Hi there,
just got a new toy. A Marlin 336 made by Marlin and I am wanting to install a scope on it. I am looking for a nice scout scope, something 1.5-4x or 2-5, nothing more than that.
It didn't take me long to discover how hard scout scopes are to find in Canada, almost impossible.
Do you guys knows where, who is selling them in Canada?

Thank you!

Scout scope are intended to be mounted on the barrel thus their long eye relief.. Why would you want to do that on a Marlin when you can mount a conventional scope over the receiver?

Cabela's stocks the Weaver K4 Scout (4x28mm) and prices it at approx. $250. Other retailers carrying the Weaver line should be able to get it, too.

Similarly, anyone who carries Leupold or Burris should be able to get their scout models, but they are also fixed power - 2.5x or 2.75x, I think.

The Weaver scout no longer available from cabelas (online) unfortunately. I was looking for a second one a few days ago. I have one on my BLR takedown as I wanted the barrel and scope to stay together (not that you need to justify your desire for a scout scope). No problems with it, took it out in crappy weather and rattled it with 300 wsm. Recommended if you can find it. Best of luck!

I almost got stoned to death asking for how to put a scout scope on my Winchester :) What I had in mind was the Leupoid FX-II 2.5x28, check with your local Leupoid dealers and see if they can order one for you. From my research it is a perfect match for top eject lever guns, but since your Marlin is a side eject, you have all the choices in the world. Good luck.

you might want to consider a red dot. I was looking for a scout scope for my BLR, but ended up opting for a red dot instead. Typcially 0 magnification, but you put the red dot on the traget and pull the trigger. Regardless of where the dot is in your field of view, if it's on the target you want to hit, it will hit. Great for quick shots at close to medium range.

I got my Leupold FX-2 2.5x28 from Lanz Shooting Supply, simply because it was local, but calling around, I found that Ellwood Epps had both the Leupold and the Burris scout scopes. I found that I actually prefer the scout style over my other scopes.

A friend has a Bushnell 6500 1.5x8 extended eye relief scope on his ruger gunsite scout. Best of both worlds. I'm not sure if the scope has been discontinued

Thank you very much for all the info.
OK, yes, scout scopes are not very popular but whenever there is one available, it gets sold pretty quick. I love ghost ring sights so my marlin has an XS lever rail installed, which leaves me with two options, a regular scope or a scout scope. I prefer the latter.
Looking online I found that Leupold has a custom shop, and there is (for those shopping around for a scout scope for levers this seems to be the ticket, particularly Marlins) a variable power scout scope: http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/optics-discussion-forum/66256-new-leupold-scout-scope.html

Again, this is a custom scope that can be acquired through the custom shop only, and of course it is in the States that means you would need to import the scope and lots of paperwork later, you might get the scope.

Now I will check Ellwood's site and see what they have!
P&D seems to have lots of fixed scout scopes too! that is great news!

Thank you all

The scope that I intend to (eventually) mount on a Ruger Gunsite Scout (when and if Ruger gets with the program and makes some for us) is the hi-lux leatherwood 2-7x32LER scope. Wolverine has them in stock right now for $190 I believe. All the reviews that I have seen are positive, and some have said it is neck and neck with Leupold's scout scope in terms of clarity (but I have never seen them side by side so I cannot vouch for any of this).

I am actually about to go and pick up my scout scope today.

I have a marlin 1895gbl (45-70) with XS peep sights on it. It has become my favorite gun for the range and going hunting. I guy at my local range had a scout scope on his 30-30 and I really liked it, felt nice. I like the idea of being able to use the scope or take it off and just use the XS sights. The X 2.5 magnification of the Leupold is just perfect.

Your correct they are hard to find, I saw one in a shop last year and was kicking myself I didn't buy it straight away. I live in Vancouver and the only scout scope I have been able to find locally is the Leupold.

Like you I was really interested in the Leupold adjustable scout scope available through their custom shop but it seems like impossible to get. The people in the USA directed me to the Leupold distributor in Canada (alberta I think) and said would have to go through them, they were great to chat to but said they don't like getting product lines that only sell a few as warranty issues become a huge issue, didn't sound like they would get them in any time soon.

Too bad you can't get USA scopes mailed to you. I was able to order the XS scout scope base from Brownells, but all scopes were a big no. But I figure X2.5 is enough magnification for the 45-70 trajectory.

I have heard that you can do it through Prophet River. I haven't dealt with them myself. But when/if I order a scout scope, my plan was to go through them.

I've never seen it on their website, only sitting in the display at the local store. In fact for a while they didn't show any Weaver scopes online so I asked at the store if that meant they were giving up carrying the brand and was assured that is not the case.
