scratched dies

Is the die scratched - leaving ridges on your brass, or is the die leaving scratches on your cases?

If it is the latter find a small wooden dowel that will chuck into a hand drill. Wrap some fine synthetic steel wool around the rod , add a bit of oil and after removing the decapping rod polish up inside the die.

What works well is to drill out the primer pocket on a sized piece of brass, thread it, and install a drill mandrel in the bottom of the brass. Remove the stem from the die, add a little rouge or polishing cream (like mag wheel polish, or toothpaste even), and go at it.
