Scratches in bore

Long story short, was helping a buddy set up his rifle. He was using one of those Bushnell bore sightseers with the metal clamps that go in the barrel. Turned it snug and then we set up the scope. When I (not sure why I even touched the thing) was taking it out, having never used one, pulled it out when it wasn't fully released. I looked with a flashlight and couldn't see much. Certainly not any gouges. But maybe some scuff marks on the inside of the ridges.
It's a vanguard 30-06 regular contour.
The guy is concerned now that the barrel is pooched.

What's the concern here? No gouges, so in my opinion, the rifle will smooth back out and fire as usual? What will this effect? Should a smith be involved?
Thanks, don't want to screw a guy over but also not buy a rifle I would have never treated with a metal post in the barrel in the first place.
Note to self. Don't help a guy with his rifle or lend tools
 
I doubt the accuracy would be affected. Bore sighting tools may be hard but they are not a cutting tool. Go shoot it...
 
Awkward situation, hey? I doubt that scuffing would have much effect but shooting it should tell the story - if the guy is willing to be straight about it.
Good lesson to learn, for all of us, to not be learning things with another guys stuff. Especially if the guy is fussy.

Crown is still fine. In fact it all looks fine, although I could see what looked like discoloration where it scraped, if that makes sense. No sign of gouges. Initial thoughts were 1 bullet would smooth it back out. Definitely didn't cut into it.
Yeah hes pretty anal. Awkward yes. Already made the offer to buy it. Cant have too many 30-06s right.....
 
Had a S&W Model 17-6 revolver with some pretty serious looking rifling-tool chatter marks in the bore. Shot like a laser anyways.

If that happened to me, dude would be off the "buddy list". I mean really? He asked for help and would hold you accountable for a surface scuff somewhere? Not cool.
 
Why don't you offer to pay to have the barrel bore scoped. Then both parties could be satisfied that no damage was done. Spuds or Arbors can be inserted into a muzzle with no apparent sign of damage to the rifling... but removing them without loosening the collet is NOT good.....and you should have left it alone and let the rifle owner do that. You say 'but also not buy a rifle I would have never treated with a metal post in the barrel in the first place'.....as near as I can see you are not the 'victim' here and yet you appear to want approval for your actions. Well...what do you think?

Thanks for the comments. Your perception of me playing the victim card is incorrect sir. I would never attach a metal post/rod/clamp/etc in my barrel. That's my choice.
The bore of fine. He confirmed today all was good and he, in a round about way, admitted he overreacted.
I listened to several people who knew what they were talking about and it panned out as such.
And if you are the type of guy to turn down a friend when they ask for help, that's you brother.

I should also add, I never ripped the bore sighted out. It was loose and floppy, I guess it could be described, so I believed it was ready to come out as was. Anyway.

Thanks all. Guys happy and declined my offer of purchasing the rifle at his purchase price.
