I've noticed some scratches on the inside and bottom side of my upper receiver. I can't think of what would be able to get into these locations and cause these scratches, so looking for some input.

This first one is the rear locking pin area. This part normally sits inside the lower, behind the trigger. What could cause this scratch?

Scratches are highlighted in the red circles. Some of them I've touched up, but no idea what could cause these:

Last picture here is of the lower:

Yep, pretty normal where the upper meets the lower. Just shoot it, it'll have more character scratches when it accidentally falls off the gun rack onto the ground haha (mine does at least)

Small particles just being wedged in when mating the receivers most likely, or hitting things and not noticing when setting the parts down/putting them away.

I wouldnt be concerned if it was on the exterior of the receiver, like for example drops or scratches from the sling's hardware. Was just puzzled as to what could cause this on the interior, especially that one on the rear take down pin lug.

I dont check every brass, but probably not blown out primers. All the brass I've seen have no abnormalities. All XM193 or 855s.

Very possible from dirt/gravel from dropped mag. Didnt consider that.

Thanks all for the info.

It is caused by shooting, you should stop ;)
bits of sand or foreign matter get caught between the the 2 halves and the recoil just works at grinding the finish off. Not worth worrying about it.

Another sort of related question, the last time I cleaned my rifle, I found a sliver of metal, silver in color, maybe 0.25-0.5 inches long and very thin sitting on my BCG at the following location:

I wish I had a picture of that metal piece. But I tossed it out, took out the BCG and inspected the BCG and the upper and lower to see if there was any scratches that resembled it. I found nothing. I suspect it may be scrapped off from the charging handle as I do notice that the finish on the side and bottom of my charging handle does have wear. Any ideas?

I understand its normal to have wear and tear, I'm just uneasy about stuff inside the receiver that may cause malfunction.

Have you looked inside your receiver extension (buffer tube)?

Normal stuff except maybe the sliver of metal. Lube your guns well and shoot them lots. More imperfections will show up on your gun over time.
