Screwdriver for rem 870 recoil pad removal

I see online you need a Philips head screwdriver to take out the two screws holding the recoil pad in place. I have a 870 express synthetic stock. All my screwdrivers are to large, do you need a special gunsmith type screw driver or can I find a cheap one at canadian tire? Anyone have a pic of the size screwdriver that will work, the length seems quite long to access the screws and they seem quite small.
 
it's a common type, but i can't recall if it's a philips or an allen. and whatever it is, use the RIGHT size, especially if it's a philips - people have a habit of using a "close enough" for philips and that kills the heads incredibly quickly because of how a phil is designed to work.

EDIT - that part above is for removing the stock from the receiver.


to remove the rubber pad, a #1 phil should do the trick, 6" length is enough. the screws are buried in that rubber crap.
 
Thanks berndog and bp7! Ill look for that size at canadian tire. Don't wanna strip the screws :)
 
eh, if you don't already have it, go to Princess Auto and buy one of those "24 screwdrivers" packs that gets you a few sizes of flat, phil, square, torx, etc. or find similar at crappy tire. the sets are way cheaper than a single driver, and even the cheap-n-cheerful sets are more than sufficient. my Princess Auto set is the one that has coloured handles - green for phil, red for slot, yellow for torx, chrome vanadium shaft with black tip. cheap, works.
 
I've thought more than once that those stupid Phillips screws should be taken to the hardware store and some Robbie screws found with the same head profile, thread and length...only about 1000 times better.

Just use a Phillips screwdriver with a reasonably slim shank, push down hard and keep pushing down as you turn the screws out. It's not that hard.
