I finally got the Volquartsen accurizing kit installed for my Ruger Mark IV tactical.
According to Volquartsen official installation video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAwCck7EGSc), the sear part is like: sear, spacer and sear spring, threaded together by a sear pin.

However, I found there is literally no room for the spacer. All these 3 parts are metal and they are not flexible in dimension.

After struggling for a couple of hours, I decided to ditch the spacer.
Now it's completed, dryfire feels good, the trigger is very light and crisp.
I don't feel any rattling sound around the sear and/or hammer part.

Why is this spacer included, is it really needed? Or is it for 22/45 only?

I saw couple of unofficial video like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YB9EmYwDyzg, the guy didn't install sear spacer, he didn't even mention it. And I can literally see the wiggly roomy between sear and sear spring. But it seems it doesn't hurt anything at all.

Anyone with this pistol and kit have had similar experience to share?

I wanna say that the spacer is only for the 22/45 .. I am having trouble remembering for certain ..but I beleive it is mentioned somewhere on the package or volquartsen website? I went through this a few months ago but my memory is failing me lol

That's my feeling as well. I even measure the space with a calibre and found that sear+spring+spacer is about 0.1mm wider than the frame, there was no way to insert the space.

The package comes with two separate spacers each marked clearly for mark iv and 22/45, but those are for hammer on the other side of the bushing.

However the Volquartsen video itself doesn't mention regular mark iv (non 22/45) doesn't need the spacer. The guy in the video used a 22/45 for demonstration purpose though. And the reassembly was shown in an animation, and at the end the guy just said: "done, just like that".

Its all good. Here is a link from the Volquartsen website.

[h=3]Step 1[/h]
  • Insert sear pivot pin into frame from the left side approx. 1/8" and using a needle nose pliers set the sear spring onto the pin.
  • 22/45 users only: there is a small, black spacer included in the kit. This spacer is to be installed between the spring and sear. It is not pictured here.
  • The loop in the spring should face towards the front of the pistol.
  • The long leg of the spring points into the large recess behind the magazine well

Where does it go?

Have you ever put something together and have it all looking right, only to discover an extra piece laying on the work bench? I know I have, and usually in my case it's because I skipped over a step in the instructions … or maybe skipped the instructions altogether.
In our effort to "build it better," we are sometimes guilty of including additional items in kits and not getting our instructions updated to reflect that. If you have recently installed one of our Accurizing Kits for the Ruger MK IV and ended up with an extra part or two, it's not your fault.
More than likely the extra part is a set of spacers. There are two different lengths included in our kits however you will only need one.
What do these spacers do? They eliminate any "rattle" that might be found in the safety on the MK IV. They
simply install on the left hand side of the hammer (if frame was pointing downrange) between the hammer and safety (see picture).
You'll notice there are two widths of spacers. This is due to slight variances in the frames however in most cases the thicker of the two will be used for the 22/45 style frames. It's not required to install these spacers for proper functioning.
How do you know for sure which one to use? It's easy. You want to use the one that will remove the most play without binding.
Our Accurizing Kits for the Ruger MK IV fit all variations of the Ruger MK IV, including 22/45 models, and give you a crisp 2.5 lb. trigger pull. If you want to take it a step farther, our Pisto lCompetition Kit adds even more performance, be sure to check it out

What a relief, now I know this sear spring spacer is indeed not for non 22/45.
I wasted a couple of hours last night wrestling it.
Should have read the instruction instead of just watching the video.
The guy from Volquartsen in the video specifically talked about different size of trigger over-travel screw, the hammer bushing spacer for both regular mark IV mad 22/45. That gave me the impression that this video is generic for both models. So when he didn’t mention the sear spring spacer I assume it’s for both. Otherwise he would have said that like he did for hammer spacer.
