Hopefully the CGN community or a site sponsor can chime in with some help. I've been searching for a stainless 25-06 in either Browning xbolt or Tikka T3x but have had no luck. Im not real keen on the xbolt 2 models with threaded barrels as ill never run a brake or a can. Thanks in advance folks.

Preferably a Browning xbolt seeing as you get a 24 inch barrel over the 22 inch Tikka. However I never had a Tikka that couldn't shoot.

Anyone have first hand experience with the Weatherby vanguard S2 in 25-06? This may be an option as I'm really looking for a 24 inch barrel.

I have a S2 vanguard in 257Wby, first and only 1/4 bore I have, sale thing, they use to be ridiculous cheap ($300-$500 or new) bought several in different chamberings, they are built old school, big heavy forged receiver with integral recoil lug, one piece forged and machined bolt, hammer forged barrels, made in Japan, they were a steal back then, still a steal today under $1000, black Friday sales some models were $600.
Anyway yeah, not a 25-06 though, I load so the Wby was no big deal, it's fast, it's accurate, I would steer anyone to a vanguard or howa over anything else under $1000 just on build quality, you get your money's worth.

Thanks Hitzy, through your posts ive seen your a big vanguard/howa fan. Have you looked into the Vanguard Obsidian at all? From what I've seen the only difference between the S2 and Obsidian is the stock. Everything else seems to be the exact same minus the stock.

I bad a savage
No. I have the savage.

The one on EE is a R700

And how come ? All Savages ive had our tackdrivers …… and 700s as well ( one def needed trigger adjusted plus the crown hit , but after that was .098 “ 4 shot group at 100 y - 204 ruger )
I had a savage Axis years ago and to my surprise it would not shoot worth a darn. The stock was crooked at the forend and just felt so cheap. Yes they are a cheap rifle but it just wasn't for me. I've seen some bad remington 700s over the last 10 years and tend to stay away from them fir that reason alone.

Wow crazy.

Yea i got the savage axis 2 …. Seems decent but yeah i believe it. Those first ones my uncle had a 270 and i think it was also very tight shooting….. he neglected it though. Couldn’t be bothered cleaning the bbl and rust got inside i think.

You must be referring to the Weatherby Obsidian?. I saw that yesterday. Trying to figure out if the stock on the Obsidian is the only difference from the S2 model
That is the only difference. It is just the most basic vanguard available. No flutes, no fancy cerecoat colours. Just a basic black on black rifle. It’s a great value.

You don't HAVE TO use a brake or can on a threaded barrel, they all come with thread protectors, just use the thread protector, Crown is still the same as a non threaded rifle and will make no difference in how the rifle shoots. Assuming it meets all other requirements?

IF it needs to absolutely meet every single every single thing on your wishlist, you may have to look for a while, and it wont be cheap. It might be better to buy an action you like/trust (the T3x) and then get IBI to spin you up a custom barrel exactly how you want it besides being an absolute laser for a rifle.

As per my understanding all of these have the same bolt face, re-barelling one as long as the action length clears should be relatively easy.
