I have an old marlin 1893 trapper (short rifle) in 38-55 win that has black powder stamped on barrel so I am looking for some ammo, was told shooting cowboy action rounds would be fine but can not seem to find any. Even some brass for me to reload would be a start. Thanks in advance.

If you're loading your own you can also use .375 Winchester brass if that's easier to find and just use light .38-55 data. Just don't ever put a normal pressure .375 Win round in there.

If you plan on shooting it more than once in a blue moon, I'd definitely load for it considering the price of ammo. Some Trail Boss powder and cast bullets would do well. Or try your hand at loading black powder cartridges. Could even be a good candidate to try paper patching bullets. A box of 100 Star-Line brass is $48 but 20rnds of loaded ammo is $52. A lot of older cartridges like this are much more economical to load for even at low volumes.

If you're dead set on commercially loaded black powder rounds, best of luck. That stuff is exceedingly difficult to find in Canada. It isn't even that easy to find in the states from my understanding but not as hard as it is here.
