Good afternoon all,
I researched the forum a bit and found the posts on this ammunition to be fairly old and I am unsure if the information in them is up to date. So long story short I have a Mauser 71/84. I am searching for brass or any CIL boxed ammo for this rifle. I have about ten empty brass and ten loaded cartridges.

Failing that, I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for reloading the brass that I have?
Will any local gun shop reload or is this a specialty sort of thing?
I don’t necessarily want to buy an entire lee setup just to reload for this Mauser. Thanks in advance for any help!

use search engine

there are a few selling adds for 43 Mauser ammo: CIL and Dominion.

Bullet Barn has brass, lead bullets and dies.......

You have a specialty rifle, get into reloading for it, you can afford it and shoot alot.......

I understand this problem all to well. I was given the gun, took it out to the range once with my father and shot it. It's not much to look at but it shot remarkably well. Now I'd like to clean the gun up and shoot it once and a while. Down to 9 brass and 3 rounds of factory left. A friend reloads this, but he's a 3 hr drive away. There's a place that's a commercial reloading company in the US, Buffalo Arms I think. No idea what amount of red tape to get ammo across border and it's $100 US for 20 rounds. I've been reloading for 20 years but only handgun rounds on a Dillon Square Deal, I think I'll probably pick up a single stage press at some point and make my own .43 rounds.

There is not much cheap about getting a .43 up and shooting. I have seen a few ok deals on old factory ammo in the EE but other than that you are stuck scrounging supplies and casting your own bullets. That buffalo arms ammo mentioned isn't approved for sale in Canada, or at least wasn't as of fairly recently.

Some old used brass is brittle and unsafe.
Bertram is good brass but expensive.
Some of our club members have made up improvised brass from .300 Win mag, which requires a lathe and annealing.

Depending on how complete the rifle is, you might be further ahead selling it along. Yes, it was a gift, but ever heard of a white elephant?

Supposedly the 43 Mausers were the rifle of choice for moose hunting - back in the day.

Hello all thanks for the response,

If I could post pictures I would, but the rifle is in I would say fair-good condition. It obviously hadn't been used often by its previous owner, a distant family member. It was stored well and the ammunition was bought, in the 60's I believe with the rifle. He intended to hunt Moose with it in Northern Ontario but that's where the story leaves off. I have since put about ten of those old CIL rounds through it, the brass appears to be in good shape, original boxes all that.
I just can't bring myself to part with it (sentimental value) and upon doing further research, I plan on getting into reloading for it. I'll scrounge around for more brass, but this may turn into more of a conversation piece that gets to come out of the safe on special occasions. There is just so much history wrapped up in the old beast and boy is it fun to shoot (Minus the powder marks).
I have heard of the .300 WinMag conversions, I'm always willing to research more could be a viable way producing ammo for it, Thanks for the heads up!

Go to all the gun shows within reasonable driving distance from where you live. In the last couple years the asking price has gone up from $100 to $150 for a 20 round box , but there is still the occasional deal to be had. While there , dig around in any boxes of loose / mixed ammo. Sometimes you get lucky and pick up a few singles that way. Don't be afraid to make an offer. The guys asking $150 a box , get sick of dragging the same stuff from show to show , and are sometimes glad to finally get rid of it. Good luck !

You may be able to load with some home made tools(look up Lee hand tool set for rifle). Decapping, repriming can be done this way. Projectiles app. 0.446(lead only) are difficult to find(google). PM me if you have questions.
