Searching for a new pistol in 9mm...

Like the title says, im looking to buy a new pistol. I currently only have a Kimber 1911 in .22lr, but am looking to moving up to a 9mm.

I sort of have my heart set on a Sig p226 MK25 ( preferably in FDE/Tan, but black would be fine too).

Thoughts on this pistol? I have handled a Beretta 92fs and 92a1 and liked they feel of it, and is about 400 dollars less than the Sig. I dont have very large hands but it is my understanding the SIG grips are easily changed out. Which between the two would be a good way to go? Or maybe should i be looking at a S&W M&P? Open to any and all suggestions! thanks!

since you mentioned P226, I assume your budget is in that range. here is my personl list of 9mm I have and will own, nothing very special, but the common good ones many people use

SIG Sauer P226 Extreme - 9MM (Mec-Gar Mags) [I have this one right now]
CZ 75 SP-01 ShadowLine - 9MM
Walther PPQ M2 5" - 9MM

Then if you don't plan to shoot .40S&W, H&K P30L may be another candidate for 9mm. My personal prefernce would be buy it in .40S&W based on the beautiful recoil system it has that makes it shoot like 9mm.
if you go with M&P or Glock, may i suggest MP40 & G22 which I have because they can be converted into 9mm for less than $300, not the other way around. That is, you do plan to shoot .40S&W.

Hmm i never thought about that. Pretty much the reason i was looking towards 9mm was obv the ammo was cheaper. And yeah i can spend around 1400 but if i can get something cheaper obv that would be great lol. So if i went with say the M&P 40 ( which i was looking at since they have those range kit available) i can buy a 9mm conversion kit??? How does the M&P shoot compared to say the SIG of Walther?


That M&P .40sw range kit seems like a great deal, and to buy the 9mm conversion after would be great as well. Is it worth buying? or should i spend some extra money and buy the PPQ or MK25....

SIG P226 is a great gun the plus you can get a .22 conversion kit for it at decent prices. Also CZ's are great guns and have .22 conversions for them as well although hard to find and not as cheap as SIG kits. Right now my P226 has had the .22 conversion on it full time due to the cheapness and funness of ammo.
 
1. For the MP40 conversion, yes, but it's not really a kit, but just a barrel. there are two companies I know make this(could be more), the most common one I have seen in stock is storm lake priced @ C$200 before tax and shipping. PM me if you want to know as I am not sure if it's against the rules to post any vendor here.
2. For the trigger on MP40. the general "you get what you pay for" applies. the short answer is NO and there are two approaches for this. One is the shortcut lots of people are talking about. An Apex trigger kit(don't remember the cost) or a trigger job by a smith which should bring the MP40 trigger to be better than standard MK25 I believe(but not 100% sure) because MK25 doesn't have the SRT trigger. my extreme comes with the SRT, so I think at least it should be the same as Apex, but again not sure because I don't have Apex. The 2nd approach for the MP40 stock trigger is that just ride it out because my believe is that worse trigger makes better shooter. To your question on MP40 shooting, with everything stock, after about 1300 rounds on my mp40/g22/sr1911/g41, I can shoot slow fire fair accurately in 3 months @ 7 meters and am moving on to 10 meters. So, I would say nothing practice can't fix. It really depends on your goal if you want to have fun and shoot good in short time, or you are in this sport for a long run.

I do love the look of that PPQ as well haha.

I wont buy glock, just cant stand the look of them.

My first choice was an M&P 9mm. If you buy the Range Kit @ $650 its a great deal. I ended up with a Sig P226 Enhanced Elite with the short reset trigger and E2 grip (for smaller hands). Love this pistol. I also purchased the 22 conversion to keep practice costs down. Great pistol. I recently tried my buddy's Beretta 92fs and loved the feel of that pistol as well. It felt good and had a natural sight alignment. They will all be great pistols. If the looks don't decide it for you (some don't like the look of the 92FS) then renting or borrowing them for some testing would be my recommendation. The CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow is also worth looking at.
 
yes. completely forgot to mentioned. the range kit is great value. M&P40 range kit is the same price, if not cheaper, which was what I got. M&P9 cannot be converted to 40 though.

My first pistol was a Beretta 92FS.They are a very reliable and accurate pistol,but I prefer a single stack myself.If you like the 1911 platform you might consider something from STI in 9mm.These are great pistols with excellent customer service from STI...
