Hello All,

I am on the prowl for a shotgun. Basically, here is what I was looking for:

1. Has to be cheap. Under 200 bucks. Don't care if it's ugly as sin so long as it meets the other req's below

2. Wood furniture a MUST

3. Short barrel(s). I'm looking for 18.5 BUT if it's a pump action, the mag should be flush with the barrel, or otherwise can be mag extended to that length

4. Be a good, solid, reliable name (Remington, Winchester etc)

5. Few or no plastic parts on it, all metal prefered

6. Does not matter if it's in 2 3/4 or 3"

7. No Parkerisation. That stuff is the poor man's bluing knock off, IMHO, and it would not fit with my milsurp collection.

8. Can be an old chopped down pump, OR double barrell (so long as the double barrel has ejectors)

That's it... can anyone suggest the remedy to my old-school shotgun idea?

in a pump the only thing that i can think of that comes close is an old 2 3/4" Wingmaster, but even if you can find a complete gun for $200 it will probably be in rough shape. a receiver in good shape goes for around $175.

they usually come with ~30" plain fixed choke barrels, you could cut the barrel down and install a mag extension. itll likely be ~$300 though: if you watch the EE you might find a gun for ~$250, plus $50 for the mag extension.

7. No Parkerisation. That stuff is the poor man's bluing knock off, IMHO, and it would not fit with my milsurp collection.
:slap:

what are you saying....
Parkerizing is a pormans blueing???
Wont fit with you mil serps!!!
No chance you will find anything good for $200 not even a used norinco 870 copy.
You may want to revisit the idea and post again.

I have noticed that at the auctions that I attend the market is strong for 3 and 3 1/2" steel shot capable, mobile choked recently made shotguns.
Traditional, wood stocked, 2 3/4", fixed barrel working guns go begging, often selling for $100 - $150. Stevens, Savages, and their housenamed brands. Sometimes Ithacas. Not necessarily easy to extend the magazines, but otherwise what the OP is looking for. Blued, too, none of that tacky inferior parkerizing.;)

A beat up short barrel winchester or remington goes for about 250.00 Its wayyy over budget.

A double that works and has its barrels regulated will cost a lot. A Cheap one will probably have one barrel shooting here and the other shooting over there.

A single shot cooey or whatever can be had for 80$ or so. One barrel that works is better than two barrels that don`t and it will be much cheaper. It can even be painted green and black for the full tactical look.

Hey hey hey guys. Firstly, I'm not attacking anyone or anything. I'm just surprised they split the shotgun section, and was a little confused where to post stuff is all. Secondly, Parkerization might go hand in hand with milsurps, but I just personally dislike it, but ONLY if poorly done. To that note, my 1942 Lithgow is a very dark khaki-green/black "parkerization" and it's as smooth and nice as blueing on any of my other arms.
Also, I understand that I may have asked for something a little cheaply. Perhaps in the future, when I can save 250 Canadian Polar Bear Coins (aka Toonies) I will happily look to buy a used Wingmaster and slice it down to length. I understand that 18.5 inches barrel length, 26" over all is the shortest you can modify a pump action shotgun?

Cheers,

Hey wow, I didn't know the new Black and Green Shotguns forum was also a medium to buy/sell shotguns.

I'm looking for a Caesar Guerini in 12 and 26" for upland. Maybe a Mugnus or a Tempio. Anybody?

Oh wait, should I be posting my WTB in the Hunting and Sporting Shotguns forum for this gun? Not sure if they make parkerized ones. :p

--- No offense to the OP. :)

You can get barrels that are 14" 12.5" etc for an 870 type shotgun and still be legal if they were manufactured at that length. For example the 'rinco HP9 comes with a 14" barrel from the factory (you probably know this already).

I re-parkerized my HP9 and put some wingmaster furniture on it (I like the "woody" look too :D ) and when I parkerized it I changed the "formula" to make it extra dark instead of the light gray that parkerizing usually comes out as.

So, the HP9 was like 250 (I think, can't remember that far back) Wingmaster wood furniture cost about 50, and the parkerizing kit cost me about $40 I think.

so for $340 I got this.. :D

Keep an eye out for an old 870 at local mom and pop gunstores. sometimes you can get one for cheap and you can get the barrel chopped to 18 1/2 inch, get an el'cheapo mag tube and tacticool for real cheap.

870's are great shotguns and last long.

I made this for around $225. Thanks to Ellwood Epps, and my own ingenuity :D

It's a Lakefield/Mossberg 400, I sanded and stained the wood dark grey/black and cut the 30" barrel down to 19".
