Sears Model 8C

I am helping out my father-in-law's friend who is clearing out his dad's stuff. This was another one pulled out of his old gun cabinet after they drilled the lock. This was in rough shape, the magazine had been left loaded and was oxidized pretty badly. The bolt was seized up and required a pretty solid hit with a rubber mallet to open the action up. Not sure how much this was actually shot though as the scope, an old Weaver 4X, was found mounted backwards! I'll have to function test this one but what might something like this be worth? Is there even a market for it given how cheap good entry level 22LR rifles are? I'm afraid this one may not even be worth the trouble and cost of shipping it.

It says Made in Canada for Simpson's Sears not by Simpsons. just like most of the "Specialty" merchandise they sold

Worth between $125 and $200 depending on condition . Folks like to buy the Sears marked guns because it reminds them of the days when you could buy guns off the rack in most any Dept. store with no questions asked . The value is in the nostalgic memories that the gun produces , not the actual worth of the rifle .

Why?

They had several lines of firearms names that they sold under. They didn't make any of them though, just as they did not make any of the appliances, or hand tools, that they sold.
Every large retailer had a firearms line, and a lot of the small ones did too. To get your custom stamp on a shipment often took orders as few as a couple dozen guns. Outfits as big as Sears or Eatons could ask for and get minor changes from the normal production, if they wished, for cheaper, or better.
