Season the bore

Like many others on occassion I go on YouTube to learn new techniques.
Regarding black powder revolvers Blackie Thomas is one of those truly technical gun handlers with a vast background of experience.

He spoke of just prior to shooting a cap and ball revolver to lightly lubricate it with TC bore butter.
This to eliminate first clean bore flier.
I did this and it actually worked very well.
Funny thing I shot my ROA better than my Hammerli 22 target pistol that day !?!?

Anyone else try this bore lube technique ??

Always have. I figure a bore that's too clean leads up faster.

Blackie Thomas and Mike Beliveau(Duelist1954), are invaluable sources for info on shooting and maintaining bp revolvers. I've also been lubing my bp revolver barrels prior to shooting, for quite a few years. Used any number of concoctions, over that time. Bore butter, or lube around that consistency, works best. Thin layer applied with a patch...that's all that's needed. Good to see this old trick demonstrated once again, by Blackie. It works. I'm with ryan....a squeaky clean bore is just asking for bore leading. Particularly if the bullet isn't a good mechanical fit to the bore.
