Holy crap I think after 800+ rounds Ive found the right seating depth for my 6BR bullets. 1.839 seems to be were my lands start (long throat I know) Did some shooting on my birthday July 1st starting at 1.834 around 5 thou off the lands and has luck would have it I think the group is close to 1/4 inch at 100yds..

I took 5 more out between 250 and 300 yds ( guesstimate) and was happy to see around a 1.5 inch group, a little more testing and we will see what develops.

OK....why try 108's if you know the 107 Sierra's are working?

800 rounds down and still going to be doing load development? You only have 1000+ rounds left of that barrels life to play with until you replace it or cut it back.

If you need a box of 107's let me know, I have 2000+ in the cupboard, I think I can spare a box of 500.

Bucky, did you adjust the windage on the scope between 1 and 2 and between 3 and 4-5-6?

If not,The groups are landing in different spots. Try a 5 or 10 shot group at 1 point of aim

WELL I HAPPEN TO HAVE 600 108s AT THE MOMENT SO WHY NOT give them a try as well, never know whats best till you try them right, And they were the only thing I could get when I was in Calgary last time. I am also waiting for a chance to pick up some 105 Berger's at some point and give them a chance as well.

Ian it was a wind age adjustment from my old "0" so I still think I can but a decent group together if I do my part.....maybe tomorrow if the rain quits.

Targetnorth......Only 1800 rounds out of a 6BR barrel??? Don;t forget Richard and Ian are one of the best shooters in BC and there best friends and I bet Ian gets a deal on Krieger barrels because he sells them......so if thats all they get well I can say no more.

Thanks for the comments.....

Cheers

One of the reasons Ian and Rich do well is their barrels are performing at their peak.

That means changing barrels WAY sooner then most shooters expect.

Top tier SR BR have swapped out barrels around 700 to 800rds. The 6PPC can likely go 3000rds and give 1/4 min accuracy. But in that game 1/4 min is last place.

For SR F class, that V bull is something we all need to hit to stay in the standings. That means we need rifles that can hold 1/4 min so we have some wiggle room for our normal screw ups.

A 6BR is going to loose that gilt edge around 1800rds - sometimes a bit faster, sometimes a bit slower but you will start seeing shots out of the desired group that are not your fault.

I pulled my barrels for set back or selling when they start shooting 1/3 min at 200yds. for sure, when they start pushing a few too many 1/2 min groups. That is mechanical accuracy OUTSIDE the Vbull.

Of course, accuracy is a very personal thing so you will find levels that work for you.

For those that are entering the big boomer realms, they may be swapping out barrels every 1000rds or LESS.

YMMV.

I look forward to the day when I walk downrange and look with semi-disgust at my 1/4 min grouping... :)

...so there are probably some "shot out" 1/4 min barrels out there then right? Any idea where one would find any of these?

I have one on the shelf ;)

Had 2000+ rounds through it and was then cut back to 24.5". Still works well, just can't get the velocity I want so I save it for winter league shooting.
