Seating Lead SWC bullets

Ok, so it turns out that it was my OAL, as C&L suggested, that was my problem. My conern now is that the rounds are seating to 1.185", as suggested by my Speer manual, but there is a small space from the mouth of the cartridge to the bullet. Is this correct or have I messed up again?

Oh, and the rounds now chamber, but a fire test will have to wait until wednesday.

A quick recap:
-Made up ~75 .45ACP with lead SW bullets. They will drop into the disassembled barrel just fine (though if I give them a push they will stick), but will not chamber in the assembled gun. I am attributed this to excessive crimping as when I look down on the rounds (bullet looking back at me), I do not see any brass lip (it is my understanding this is the case mouth). I assume that my rounds are trying to headspace on the lead rounds themselves. OAL is 1.270". My speer manual lists tested lenght at 1.185", but I would think that this would seat the bullet too deep.
-Using my RCBS sizing die without the decapping pin did nothing, they still won't chamber.

So, chuck the rounds or just buy the damn Lee factory crimp die (not convinced this would work)?

This is your problem. Seat to the proper length. Your almost a hundred thou long! You may very well be headspacing on the bullet, it's so far out ahead it's hitting the end of the rifleing! The overall length (esp. for autos!) should be held within +/- .010.

SWC sit farther down in the case then FMJ's to allow the profile to feed. I actually find them more reliable feeders then hardball when taper crimped. And I load them to 1.190". What powder and how much are you using?
